Benda, Pichl, A.Vranický - Violin Concertos - Demeterová

"The name Benda is known to perhaps every music lover in our country (Czech Lands). It belonged to one of the most famous families to have ever represented Czech music abroad. (...) The weaver Jan Jiri Benda (...) occasionally played the oboe and cimbalon at folk dances. His wife Dorota was born into the Brixi family of teachers and musicians, and three of their five children - Frantisek, Jiri and Josef - became famous as musicians and composers.
(...) František Benda moved his entire family to Potsdam, thus gaining for the King another two superlative musicians - his brothers Jiri Antonín and Josef. Friederich II greatly esteemed Benda, who was to remain in the royal services until the end of his life - in 1772 he became concert master. (...)
Václav Pichl was a similarly distinguished ambassador of Czech music. (...) Between 1769 and 1770 he worked in Prague as a chapel-master with Count Hartig and subsequently accepted the post of first violinist at the Court Theatre in Vienna. Four years later he became the chapel-master of Archduke Ferdinand in Milan, where he stayed 21 years.
Antonín Vranický (1761-1820) was another Czech composer and violinist to connect his professional career and life with Vienna. (...) Vranickýs compositions grew out of the soil of High Classicism, yet some of them show distinct features of early Romanticism."
[Lucie Manourová in the booklet]

J.V.Stamic, F.Benda, Richter, Kohout - Symphonies - Bohdan Warchal

"(...) The modern type of postbaroque symphony probably arouse from those formations. It is represented by compositions of musicians of Manheim School. (...) Jan Václav Stamic and Frantisek Xaver Richter established a worldwide famousness of the Manheim Ensemble and created a structural prototype of the symphony or of the orchestral music as whole. This model arisen through an evolution has found its more or less known followers all over the world. The principles of the mdern symphony have been founded this way. (...) Vienna classicism represented by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven is based on principles created by composers and performers of the Manheim School. (...)"

Richter, Benda, Stamic - Flute Concertos - Novotný

"A notable feature on the map of eighteen-century Europe was the presence in various parts of many musicians coming from Bohemia, whose contribution to the development of music on the continent was indeed essential, and has remained unparalleled at any time since then. Beyond their native country's borders there then existed a plethora of quality musical ensembles whose "investors", that is, aristocratic patrons, offered musician from Bohemia a much brighter existential outlook, as well as a better chance to develop their talents to the full. Each of the composers whose works are featured here had substancial share in defining the Classical style in European music, which took shape with the active involvement of more than a few composers with roots in Bohemia and Moravia. Eloquent proofs of their contribution can be found among other areas in the period production for the then fashionable instrument that was the tranverse flute. (...)"
